Checkpapuanow.com – The Cartenz Peace Task Force apprehended a member of an armed criminal group (KKB), identified as Konara Enumbi, in Usir Depan Village, Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua, on Friday, August 15, 2025. The operation was carried out without resistance from the suspect.
Brigadier General of Police Faizal Ramadhani, Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, confirmed the arrest in a written statement released on Saturday, August 16, 2025. According to him, the operation was conducted at around 10:40 a.m. local time inside a traditional Papuan honai, where Enumbi was found.
“This arrest was carried out smoothly, with no resistance from the suspect,” Faizal explained. He emphasized that the operation had been planned carefully to ensure the safety of both the officers and the local community.
During the raid, officers discovered several items believed to be linked to the suspect. Among the evidence seized were a Yamaha Vixion 150 motorcycle, a traditional head noken, a brown jacket, and three packs of areca nut. These items were secured for further investigation as part of the legal process.
Following the arrest, Enumbi was immediately transferred to Puncak Jaya Police Headquarters. Authorities stated that the suspect would undergo further legal proceedings, including interrogation and case development, to uncover his involvement in a series of violent incidents in the region.
Faizal reiterated the task force’s commitment to addressing armed violence in Papua. “Any individual who participates in armed criminal activities will face legal consequences,” he stated. He further underlined that the operation reflected the government’s firm stance in responding to the ongoing security challenges in Central Papua.
The presence of armed groups has long been a source of instability in Papua, with incidents ranging from attacks on security personnel to violence against civilians. Recent reports linked other factions of the armed criminal group (KKB) to a number of deadly assaults, raising concerns about safety among residents and miners in remote areas.
Security forces have intensified their efforts in recent months, deploying both preventive and law enforcement measures. Authorities say these actions are not only aimed at maintaining order but also at restoring public trust in the state’s ability to safeguard communities.
Observers note that the arrest of Konara Enumbi could represent a significant step in weakening the operational capacity of armed criminal group (KKB) in the region. However, challenges remain, as various factions continue to operate across Papua’s rugged terrain.
For now, the task force is expected to carry out further investigations to determine whether Enumbi was involved in past incidents of armed violence or connected to broader networks. Officials stressed that the operation in Puncak Jaya is part of a sustained effort to curb violence and protect civilians living in conflict-affected areas.
The arrest marks another chapter in the ongoing security operations in Papua, as the authorities strive to ensure stability and peace in the region while upholding the rule of law.
