Checkpapuanow.com – The Peace Cartenz Task Force, in cooperation with Nabire Police, conducted a reconstruction of the premeditated murder case involving two Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers, Brigadier M. Arif Maulana and Brigadier Nelson C. Runaki. The reconstruction took place at the crime scene on the Trans Nabire–Enarotali Road, Siriwo District, Central Papua, on Tuesday, August 26.
The reenactment was led by Head of the Cartenz Task Force’s Enforcement Division, Commissioner Wahyu, with support from joint personnel from the Task Force’s Law Enforcement Unit, Operational Unit, and Nabire Police. According to Cartenz Peace Operation Chief Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, 21 scenes were staged to demonstrate the sequence of events leading to the deaths of the two Brimob officers.
One of the suspects, identified as 31-year-old Suplianus Bagau, also known as Siprianus Weya or Supli, was directly involved in reenacting his role, accompanied by several witnesses.
Based on the reconstruction, the attack occurred on Wednesday, August 13, at approximately 8:45 a.m. local time. The perpetrators, under the command of Aibon Kogoya, were divided into three groups. The first group, consisting of individuals with the initials YM, YW, and KM, was assigned to shoot Brigadier Maulana at the first location. The second group, made up of suspect Bagau and an accomplice identified as TG, carried out the shooting of Brigadier Runaki at the second site. The third group, led by Kogoya along with an associate identified as HM, was tasked with monitoring the situation near a road construction project and an excavator.
Following the shootings, the attackers seized two firearms, an AK-101 and an AK-47, as well as body vests belonging to the victims. They later recorded a declaration video at a makeshift camp, reportedly filmed by suspect Bagau.
Brigadier General Faizal emphasized that the reconstruction was conducted under heavy security. Authorities deployed 15 tactical vehicles, 24 long-barrel firearms, and full protective equipment including body vests and combat helmets. He stressed that the reenactment was a crucial part of the investigation to strengthen legal evidence and clarify the roles of each suspect.
“This reconstruction ensures the accuracy of evidence and verifies the actions of each participant involved in the incident. The investigation is being carried out according to proper procedures with transparency,” Faizal stated.
He also expressed appreciation for the dedication of personnel working in the field. “Our priority is to uphold the law and guarantee public safety. Armed groups that resort to violence have no place in Papua,” he added.
Deputy Chief of the Peace Cartenz Task Force, Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, confirmed that the reconstruction proceeded smoothly without any security disturbances. “The entire process was safe, orderly, and under control. These results will serve as critical material for case files before being handed over to the public prosecutor,” Sinaga explained.
After the reconstruction concluded, suspect Bagau was returned to Nabire Police detention. Investigators from the task force and local police are now finalizing the case files for further legal proceedings. Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to continue pursuing other suspects who remain at large.
“We urge the community to stay calm and support law enforcement. Efforts to capture the remaining perpetrators are ongoing,” said the task force.
