The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, extended his greetings and a message of encouragement to thousands of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers stationed in Papua via a video call. The moment took place on Tuesday (December 31, 2024), coinciding with New Year’s Eve, during a fellowship event with TNI soldiers at Infantry Battalion 754/Eme Neme Kangasi (ENK), Timika, Central Papua.
In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the dedication of TNI soldiers in safeguarding the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). “May you all stay spirited and steadfast in your service,” Prabowo stated. The message was conveyed to soldiers present both in person and virtually. He also reminded them that the TNI serves as the ultimate safeguard of the NKRI and the guarantor of the nation’s independence.
“Be good soldiers, loved by the people. The TNI is the final bastion of NKRI; it is the guarantor of our freedom,” he added. He further expressed gratitude for the soldiers’ commitment. “Thank you for your service. Thank you for your loyalty. Best of luck in your duties, and may the Almighty always be with you,” Prabowo said.
The event was also attended by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, who arrived at Yohanis Kapiyau Air Base, Timika. His arrival was welcomed by the Commander of Joint Regional Defense Command III, the Commanders of Regional Military Commands XVII/Cenderawasih, and XVIII/Kasuari. Sjafrie then visited Infantry Battalion 754/ENK Headquarters to celebrate the New Year with the soldiers. During the visit, he provided essential guidance to ensure that the soldiers remain vigilant and focused in carrying out their duties.
“Remember, you are serving in the furthest and most forward areas. This is a noble mission because we are defending the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” Sjafrie emphasized. He also urged the soldiers to support and remind one another to maintain morale and alertness.
As part of the support for the soldiers’ health and well-being, Sjafrie distributed packages containing nutritious drinks, vitamins, and medications. This assistance is essential, given the challenging terrain and extreme weather in Papua. Additionally, the Commander of the TNI contributed medicines, snacks, and other logistical supplies.
The fellowship event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Commander of the TNI, the Head of TNI Strategic Intelligence, the Deputy Army Chief of Staff, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense. Their presence underscored the government’s and TNI’s commitment to providing moral and material support to soldiers stationed in border regions.
This New Year’s Eve moment not only served to strengthen the bond between the nation’s leadership and its soldiers but also showcased the appreciation for the TNI’s dedication as the frontline defenders of national sovereignty. The conveyed messages and support are expected to motivate TNI soldiers to continue their struggle to safeguard the NKRI with enthusiasm and integrity.
Papua, with its geographical challenges and extreme weather, remains one of the strategic areas requiring special attention. The direct presence of leaders and the provision of logistical support reflect the government’s seriousness in ensuring the welfare and readiness of TNI soldiers in the field.
Through this occasion, President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the critical role of the TNI in maintaining the unity and sovereignty of the nation. The messages delivered instill renewed spirit among soldiers at the frontline while reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting their efforts for the future of Indonesia.
