CheckPapuaNow.com – Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri, strongly condemns the act of domestic violence that led to the death of a woman in Jayapura, Papua. In an official statement, Inspector General Mathius reaffirmed his commitment to take firm action against perpetrators of domestic violence, even if they are members of the police force.
This tragic incident occurred when a woman, who was the wife of a police officer in Jayapura, became a victim of violence at the hands of her own husband. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found dead at their residence last Monday. According to initial reports, the victim suffered serious injuries to her body due to physical violence allegedly perpetrated by her husband.
In response to the incident, Inspector General Mathius stated that there is no place for domestic violence within the Papua police force. “We will not tolerate domestic violence, especially if the perpetrator is a police officer,” he stated firmly.
Inspector General Mathius emphasized that law enforcement must be carried out without discrimination, even if it means taking action against police officers themselves. “We will conduct a thorough investigation and impose appropriate sanctions on the perpetrator,” he added.
In this context, Inspector General Mathius also underscored the importance of raising awareness of domestic violence among police officers and the general public. “We will continue to conduct outreach and training to prevent domestic violence and ensure that everyone, including police officers, understands that it is unacceptable behavior in society,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Ahmad Mustofa Kamal, the Public Relations Director of the Papua Regional Police, added that they have formed a special team to investigate the case thoroughly. “We will collaborate with various parties to ensure that justice is served for the victim,” he stated.
Cases of domestic violence often attract attention in Papua, with several cases involving police officers in the past. However, strict and transparent law enforcement is expected to serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of violence and provide justice for the victims.
Residents of Papua also welcome the Papua Regional Police Chief’s firm stance in handling this case. “We hope that law enforcement can be carried out fairly and without discrimination, even if the perpetrators are police officers,” said a local community activist.
With the strong commitment of the Papua police force to take decisive action against cases of domestic violence, the hope for creating a safe environment free from violence becomes increasingly tangible.
